5.1.1.4 Unit packing.
5.1 .1.4.1 Heater body. The wrapped burner shall be placed within the
burner flue and the hood shall be sealed in place over the burner flue with
tape conforming to type IV, class 1 of PPP-T-60. The hanger screws shall be
turned in, aligned, and secured to form the smallest package possible.

5.1.1.4.2 Fuel tank The valve assembly of the fuel tank shall be wrapped
with grease-proof barrier-material specified in 5.1.1.3 and secured with tape
as specified in 5.1.1.4.1.

5.1.1 .4.3 Stovepipe. The rivets used in the stovepipe lengths as retaining
means shall be placed in a cotton cloth drawstring bag and securely tied to
the outer stovepipe through one of the rivet holes. The preserved stovepipe
lengths shall be nested one within the other and wrapped with grease-proof
barrier-material specified in 5.1.1.3. The wrapped stovepipe lengths shall
then be packed in a snug-fitting end-opening fiberboard box conforming to
style FOL, W5C of PPP-B-636. The box shall be closed, waterproofed, and
reinforced by means of tape in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
5.1 .1.4.4 Placement. The fuel tank shall be placed on end, the filler plug
up, on top of the lower right portion of the heater body and against the flue
stack so that the fuel tank support shall be located in one of the corners of
the shipping container. The packed stovepipe shall be placed adjacent to the
flue and the fuel tank on top of the lower left portion of the heater body.
The tank and stovepipe length shall then be secured in place by not less than
three bands of tape minimum 1/2 inch wide conforming to type IV of PPP-T-97.
The tape shall be applied in a manner as to preclude loosening, movement, or
damage to the secured components.

5.1.2 Commercial.
D 3951.
Packing shall be level A or Commercial, as specified (see
5.2 Packing.
6.2).
5.2.1 Level A packing. Each heater, complete with components, preserved as
specified in 5.1, shall be packed in a shipping container conforming to
MIL-C-52950 and nailed wood container illustration shown on Drawing 5-13-1874,
or a wirebound container conforming to PPP-B-585 and wirebound container
illustration on Drawing 5-13-1874. Each heater shall be positioned within the
shipping container with the flue in the same corner as the block provided on
each container base. Heaters packed in wood crates shall be strapped to the
base by means of a 3/4 by 0.023-inch flat steel strap conforming to class 1,
type I of QQ-S-781. The container top shall be secured in place so that the
block provided shall engage the exhaust flue tube opening. Each shipping
container shall be closed and reinforced with flat steel strapping in
accordance with the appendix of the applicable container document.
